potential new risk to our hounds?
After that awful attack on Major recently, this caught my eye when checking a link, from the daily record, 1st march this year:
ENGLISH drug barons and badger baiters are now hiding and training their devil dogs in Scotland.
Dog fighting rings moved operations north last year after a crackdown on the sick "sport" in England.
It followed the death of four-yearold John-Paul Massey, who was savaged by an American pit bull in Liverpool.
A Record investigation has now uncovered the horrific extent of animal cruelty in Scotland.
And one Scottish SPCA investigator said: "We have intelligence on dog fighting taking place in every city in Scotland. It is difficult to infiltrate, as it is very tightly knit and highly organised.
"There is a big connection between drug dealing and the keeping of illegal dogs, like pit bulls.
"These people regard the dogs like gladiators, as big status symbols, and there can be huge amounts of money staked on the outcome of a fight.
"These are also the kind of people who train dogs to attack people, who use them as weapons to defend their homes against raids by police or attacks by other criminals.
"We have identified a real spike in the number of dangerous dogs in the Aberdeen area in particular, which we can categorically connect to Merseyside drug dealers who moved their operations there
Worth taking note of, as greyhounds are often used to stimulate these fighting dogs prior to the fight, being so unsuited to fighting themselves and perhaps because they scream. English rescues now warn never to leave your greyhound unattended, eg in the car when shopping, due to the high risk of theft - greyhounds are one of the most frequently stolen breeds, which seems amazing given the sheer numbers of unwanted and abandoned hounds. It has been known for ransom demands to made.
