The Daisy Appeal Soldier's On

by Diane @, Friday, October 23, 2009, 10:21 (320 days ago)

Hi Folks

As you will read from Eliza’s email below, Daisy’s liver shunt is lying in an awkward place which means the surgery she requires to correct it is much more complex and much more expensive. The Vet School are very positive about the operation and her recovery so it’s full steam ahead to increase the money we need to cover the cost.

I have written to STV this morning and asked them to consider doing a TV appeal and obviously mentioned they were pleased when Eliza agreed to allow them to cover ‘Daisy’s Story’ in their new programme next year.

I have also emailed the P&J giving them an update and asking if they have advice/contacts to get the Daisy appeal in more national papers as well.

I’ve also phoned the Vet School this morning asking them if they can reduce the cost bearing in mind we are a ‘non-profit’ rescue and solely rely on our amazing supporters to continue doing this work, the lady I spoke to is going to pass the request onto the ‘powers that be’ and ask someone to phone me back to hopefully agree for them to give us a reduced price.

So, if you can think of any more ways to raise the profile and awareness of the ‘Daisy Appeal’ feel free to do so as it could be an amazing help.

The good news is we have just raised over £2,000 for the Appeal so far, with your amazing help and other kind donations via the P&J Daisy Appeal, so anything is possible, everyone has been so kind and generous.

We’ll keep you posted on how wee Daisy is doing and any success we get from more publicity for her Appeal.

Huge thanks to everyone who have been so kind and generous.
Cheers
Di

EMAIL UPDATE FROM ELIZA:

Hello folks

Daisy has undergone the CT scan today this afternoon.

The vet has since spoken to the surgeon, who is able to do the op

required to clip the liver shunt, however the liver shunt is not lying

in the best of places it is lying to the middle and over to the

left..because of this the cost of the surgery will be between

£4000-£5000.

Daisy is coming home tomorrow - Friday 23rd Oct, I will be collecting

her in the afternoon and will be meeting the surgeon who hopes to do the

op, he will go over all that will take place and explain more to me when

I meet him.

The operation will take place in 2/3 weeks this will give us time to

find more money needed to cover the cost of Daisy's treatment, it will

also give her time to recover from the past few days where they have

ultra scanned her, produced images, taken blood samples and done a CT

scan.

Daisy is being monitored this evening to ensure that she continues to

recover from the anaesthetic which was required for the CT scan.

The vet school also need to find a blood donor and supply of blood for

the op, for a blood transfusion should she need it, the 2/3 weeks will

give them time to find a match and obtain supply.

Daisy has a good appetite but because of the liver shunt she can only

have small meals split into 4 over a day, she is currently on special

food for her condition and the vet is keen to give her a little more,

along with some cottage cheese, which is apparently good for her and

will provide her with some more nutrients that she needs.

They also did some more blood test this morning and found one of the

levels to be slightly high, to combat this she is now on Vitamin K

tablets, and seems to be coping well with this (some dogs don't said the

vet – but Daisy is doing well).

I realise its a lot of money for her treatment, and more fund-raising is

needed folks, you have all done extremely well so far, thank you so

much. Please keep the fund-raising going and and any-more ideas to raise

funds are most welcome, we can do it!

If anyone knows of any millionaires that could spare a few thousands

pounds it would be very, very, very much appreciated.

The Daisy Appeal Soldier's On - a wee note from Daisy

Hello everybody,[image]

I wanted to let you all know how am doing, I have been posing for the camera again today to let you all see am doing okay.

My slave came for me yesterday at the lovely vet school where they gave me lots of cuddles and carry and undid all my slaves hard work of training me not to jump up.

I came home with two new stuffed toys a wabbit and a bear – my new friends at the vet hospital gave them to me to cuddle up to, they are much better than my own toys cos one is very big and good for cuddling into, and I find his ear to be very tasty.

I was a bit wobbly yesterday and did a lot of sleeping when I got home, and was still tired this morning – but I have been up and about this afternoon following Phoebe and Lassie out in the garden and playing with my toys.

The reason for my wobbliness is because of the stuff they gave me to make me sleep for the CT scan, wiv my liver not working too good, the sleeping potion is taking a wee while to remove itself from my body – I am back home to recover and get stronger for my next visit in 2/3 weeks time.

My slave was very disappointed that she didn't get to speak to the surgeon who she was suppose to be meeting yesterday by appointment, unfortunately he was call away to an emergency – so a lot of questions that she had prepared were answered. My slave is going to try phoning the Vet hospital next week and see if she can get some answers over the phone.

I have been to the hairdresser as you will see in photo – I think my style is rather cool...my new exposed belly is very becoming and very fashionable.

Well that's it for today...I is very tired now after my tea and must now go for a wee sleep[image] – PS I got cottage cheese wiv my food, cottage cheese is yummy yummy yum yum.

Love Daisy x

Did you leave any for me?

Video was taken on Sunday 25/10/09 - click on the blue below:

View My Video

While Daisy is looking fantastic and running about in the garden, she is a-lot smaller than she should be for her age, her brother whom I met on collecting Daisy will be nearly twice her size now.

She has episodes of being very energetic - as you will see in the video...but mostly she is like any greyhound, and like nothing more than finding a warm and cosy spot to sleep.

Without treatment Daisy will have a year to live..this information was given to me at the Vet Hospital on Friday...

By giving her the op she has a chance - without it she has none...a year can be along time for a little one, but I think Daisy would like to around for a lot longer than that.

Thank you to everyone who has been helping and contributing to the "Daisy Appeal". Your help and support is very, very, very much appreciated, please keep it going.

With your help we make Daisy's dreams come true.

Hello everyone[image]

I want to say a big thank you from lil me to all of you, for helping to raise a magnificenti amount of money towards the cost of my operation, I know the fund-raising is still on-going and I want to thank all of you who are still out there helping[image].

Meanwhile I am getting bigger, stronger and more powerful – am very bossy too...who would think it from a lil one like me, that I could possibly be bossy..my slave is being very good and reading a new Cesar Millan book and also referring back to her trusted numerous books by Jan Fennell, – her head is spinning but it all seems to be working so far!

On Sunday the water from the sky poured and poured and poured, I did not like that, but I was very brave and managed to do the toilet out-side, I also thought my wabbit should join me and took him out too, but I forgot to bring him back in, and he is very heavy now, cos he is soaking with the rain.

My slave says my Wabbit needs to get a wash in the machine and dried before I can have him back in my bed... my teddy has gone missing too, my slave thinks that he is probably under a bush somewhere trying to stay dry.

I live with Phoebe who is a lovely big cosy doggy and she is very kind to me..Lassie is the boss, there is no doubt about that...she told me so, and says that I have to get well so that she can chase me around the garden..Lassie also says that I am very cute but I need to learn to respect my elders and understand they are much more wiser than me, and that I can learn a lot from them if I listen, look and copy...but I can't do the sad eye for treats cos my diet is limited, and am really good about that, I understand that my treat is cottage cheese and its very yummy...I knows some-things are just not okay for me to eat just now and I must wait till am better before I get extra treats and a wider menu to choose from for my break and lunch and dinner.

I have been out for very small walks, but much prefer to be carried, my slave thinks its important for me to see and hear things outside the confines of the garden...its such a big wide space out there and I really like it when the little slave takes the lead (5yrs) cos she is so patient with me and just waits and talks to my older slave, there is no pressure for me to move...but its all very confusing and I can move very quickly when its time to turn round and head home...my walks are about 5/10 mins...and then I go mad in the garden when I get back...I love the car too...and jump up and put my paws on the window to see out from the boot – my eyes go wide and am ever so quiet, I think my slave can run really well at least 30mph, but she uses wheels instead of legs – wow....

My slave thinks I is getting bigger, cos am heavier and taking up more space! Wot? Is she complaining do you think?

Fireworks have started in the distance, but so far I haven't shown any sign of being bovered by them in the slightest so that is a good thing!...apparently, or so am told!

I have not yet heard from the Vet hospital about my appointment for my op, I expect I should hear soon and suspect it will be next week that my attendance is requested, will keep you all updated and let you know when I do get news of date and time – my slave says I might get a balloon with "get well soon", if am good – sounds like fun!

The Daisy Appeal Soldier's On

by Pauline McDonald @, Aberdeen, Wednesday, November 04, 2009, 14:06 (308 days ago) @ Diane

Hi
I would like to hold a raffle at my 60th birthday bash to raise funds for Daisy. Do you have any info sheets to produce on the night re this appeal?

We are the lucky owners of Summer, who has put up with us for 4 years, and she is still going strong, yet a little slower on the walks than she was. Not looking forward to 5th Nov, but we have been giving her calming medicine for the past two weeks, and last night firworks went off and she seemed quite calm, but still not looking forward to a full night of 'bangers'. A colleague suggested putting a T-shirt on your dog, as it acts like a comfort blanket, and improves their state of mind whilst all is going crazy round them, like horrible fireworks!

Hope to hear from you re raffle.

Cheers
Pauline
